During 2020, in spite of Covid 19 and the CZU Fire, a motivated volunteer crew of La Honda locals built a beautiful wooden bridge over the first precarious, and partly damaged scaffold bridge.
This year, in 2025, it happened again! Another motivated volunteer crew, again spearheaded by CLHG board member Liam Hussey, assembled a new aluminum truss bridge – with a beautiful locally sourced redwood deck – over the second scaffold bridge.
This project, much further up the trail, presented new challenges that were solved by assembling the truss bridge in sections, then carrying them from the top of the trail down to the site. Nonetheless, it was an arduous task – now completed!
Check out the old scaffold bridge…

Here’s the second phase (the first was assembling the bridge in sections at Liam’s house), when a bunch of volunteers hauled the bridge in parts down to the site…

Then, assembly took several days…

Ya don’t wanna have a screw loose…!

Voila

Be careful out there, and thanks for being a responsible trail user…
